Labor

Three years ago today I was laboring to deliver my sweet baby girl, Ladybug.

I didn’t know what I was in for when I checked into the hospital early that morning to be induced at 42 weeks. I’m not talking about the contractions, having my water broken, trying to push out a nine pound baby, or having an emergent C-section…

That day, June 28, 2007 was just the beginning of my labor.

It didn’t end when I had a little girl in my arms. It had just begun.

Delivering a baby isn’t the hardest part of motherhood– it’s the constant correcting and training, the modeling, the teaching, the disciplining and rebuking, the praying, and the seeking wisdom. The sweat and the tears that are poured into raising our little ones to know, love, and serve the Lord.

One of my favorite verses for motherhood is Galatians 6:9:

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

How encouraging! Yes, the labor is hard. Just like the moments I spent trying to push Ladybug into this world. I remember thinking,  I can’t do this, I’m so tired. But it is so worth every second of labor to feel the reaping– to hold that precious baby in my arms. Just like the labor will be worthwhile when I look into the faces of my children, standing strong as men and women of God, loving and serving Him. It will be worth every minute of hard labor. Totally worth it.
